Hi friends,
portratno, I’m not going to translate the whole friggin’ blog into English, I just don’t have the time for that. So if you accidently stumbled over this blog, because you’ve seen my name in Usenet or you googled your own publication or whatever and have been directed here, just some fast information: My name is Dirk van den Boom, I’m a professional SF-author and translator from Germany and this in my author’s blog – but not only about novels I’ve published, but also about everything else concerning genre-related issues: Book reviews, con-reports, some general observations in regard to SF and writing, occasional silly comments and things like that. Nothing special, but possibly entertaining, if you understand some German.

Definitely entertaining, if you use a babelfish-software for translation, irrespective of the content

I write mostly Military Science Fiction and Space Operas  (like my series about the ‚Tentacle War‘, now eight novels published) and alternative history (like my series about the ‚Emperor’s Menr‘, by now ten novels published, an English version is available). But I’m open to suggestions, especially if accompanied by advances…

I do also publish occasionally in the German SF-magazine „phantastisch!“ and I’m co-editor of Germany’s foremost info-website on SF and Fantasy, http://www.phantastik-news.de.

Aside from that I’m working in migration policy for an NGO, I’m professor for political science and have met my wife in Nigeria, where I wrote my PhD-thesis.

    Hi Dirk,
I just finished the first novel of „The Emperor’s Men“, and just bought the second novel. I really love the story so far. I see there are other installments currently in German. When will the others be translated into English?

    Hi Mr van der Boom.

I bought the two Emperor’s Men english books earlier this year and thought they were excellent and decided to search your name to see if there were any more coming. I am delighted that the third is about to be translated into English, will that be released soon? Will the others be translated soon or does your publisher need more interest to justify doing so?
Just out of interest, what work do you do on Migration policy? My German-Speaking girlfriend is currently studying her Ph.D. on migration policy.

    Kind regards,

    Hello, Herr van den Boom
I love the Emperor’s Men series and am reading the 3rd volume right now as a Kindle book. However, I noticed an error in the scene where the Valentinian steams out of Ravenna. There is a sentence that ends „… and the Valentinian now headed westward, directly to Alexandria.“ Ravenna is on the eastern shore of Italia, on the Northern Adriatic Sea, northwest of Alexandria so the Valentinian should be headed Southeast not West!
